Welcome Back to the 2010-2011 school year!

I would like to welcome everyone back to another productive and successful school year. The C & I  department is working to ensure that our students are challenged within their daily curriculum. We have implemented an intervention period at the beginning of the school day within each of our elementary school buildings. Our focus during this 30 minute session will be to improve and enhance our student's individual competencies in the areas of Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension and Writing. The intensity of instruction will depend upon the needs of the student. Please feel free to contact your individual building Principal for additional information.

RtI(Response to Intervention) is geared towards ensuring that students are provided every available opportunity to learn at their independent instructional level. RtI also ensures that additional interventions are provided for those students needing additional instructional time to master skills. This school year begins our Year 2 RtI implementation in the area of Reading for grades K-8.  We will also begin giving the Math benchmark assessment for Aimsweb in grades K-8. This will allow us to collect and monitor benchmark data on our students in the areas of both Reading and Mathematics.

We will be mailing the MAP results home to parents this year. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns regarding the assessment results. Please check our district calendar for assessment dates.

I am always open and available to talk to and work with parents regarding doing what is best for ALL of our students. I believe that together WE CAN be the difference and make the difference in our lives, our community, our society, our country and our world!
