Technology Department

Our goal is to provide our students and staff with the latest technology, support, and training in an effort to facilitate increased student achievement.

Departmental Overview

The technology department oversees network services, telecommunications, desktop, and application support services for Prairie-Hills District 144. This department maintains over 20 servers that provide network authentication, voice over internet telephone service (VOIP), software applications, database management, network security, internet filtering, video streaming, file managment, etc. that connect over 1,600 desktop and laptop computers district wide. We maintain an eight building wide area network in which each building interfaces with two, high speed carrier lines. Each building has wireless access through which students, staff, and visitors can connect to the network/internet via laptops and desktops. The District’s network is accessible to over 3,000 authorized users which includes students and staff.

Each school is equipped with a video distribution system, that allows teachers to bring resources from cable stations, internet, DVD/VHS, and video streaming directly to each class via the Safari video distribution system, wall mounted televisions (each classroom), LCD Projectors, or through PC connections. This enables our teachers to bring just in time resources into the classroom that provide curricular relevancy with up-to-date content.  Additionally, each school has a at least one computer lab, housing 24-36 PC's. Prairie-Hills Jr. High and Mae Jemison have two computer labs. Each school also has 1-2 laptop carts with 30 PC/MAC wireless laptops for classroom use. All classrooms are equipped a minimum of three computers, and an additional teacher PC, all intended to maximize teaching and learning in District 144.
